HOPE AND HAPPINESS
Hope is what we need right now in our country, in a world that seems out of control. Joni Eareckson Tada writes: “The best we can hope for in this life is a knothole peek at the shining realities ahead. Yet a glimpse is enough. It is enough to convince our hearts that whatever sufferings and sorrows currently assail us aren’t worthy of comparison to that which waits over the horizon.” RC Sproul writes: “Hope is called the anchor of the soul (Hebrews 6:19) because it gives stability to the Christian life. But hope is not simply a “wish” (I wish that such and such would take place). Rather it latches on to the certainty of the promises of the future that God has made.”
During worship in August, we are going to look at what God says to us about hope as we discover relationships Jesus had with people. These people had their lives changed for the good. They went from despair to hope, from being alone to friendship and family. They received a new identity. Their lives were transformed.
During the next few weeks, I would like to challenge you to do your own study on hope. I have made a list of Scriptures to meditate on for the next month. They will be an encouragement to you. Take time to read, reflect and write them out as you read them. It is another way to help you to ponder God’s words. There are Scripture Sheets available at the church for you for your writings, and meditations. Enjoy the readings. I will post on messaging the Scriptures and quotes from other Christians concerning hope.
Love in Christ, Ilona

Let us give thanks to God for His Redeeming love, His faithfulness, for this time of equipping for ministry. God is in control. For members who might not feel comfortable being around people you can view the recorded service that will be posted after worship on our YouTube channel and Facebook page. Following worship, we will have donuts, coffee, juice and some friendly “socially distanced” fellowship. I am so looking forward to seeing you. I will bring name tags (hahaha). I love you and long to see you.
Please join us on Facebook Live at 11:00 am. We will worship together, study together and pray together. I eagerly await the day we can meet in person.
There are also free devotionals on the Bible app. I have also placed different devotional readings for Lent on the table in the sanctuary. If you say, “My day is so busy”, “I don’t know how I can fit it in”, “Please no, not one more thing to do”, let me challenge you to get up 5 minutes earlier. I promise you the more you stretch the more you will be blessed. Remember, it is only for six weeks.
Coming up this month is VBS and we will be “Gone Fishing”. On Tuesday July 16th at 6:30 pm our 3-day extravaganza begins. Crafts, games, food and yes learning about Jesus is on the agenda. This year we will begin VBS by serving dinner at 6:30 pm. Then on Friday night at 6:00 pm, the Smiths will host a closing program for family, friends and members of FPC on their farm. There will be fishing, food and the VBS kids sharing their stories of the week. You don’t want to miss this event!
lives with each other. This July, we will not have our 10:00 am Small Groups. This will afford all of us a little extra R and R. However, on July 7th, 14th, and 21st, at 10:30 am I will host “Conversation and Donuts”. It will be a half hour gathering where we can share our summer stories, laugh together, cry together, really BE TOGETHER in a very relaxed setting. Come when you can and we will all sit, chat and relax together.
God, (but) God still loves them and wants to reach them with his offer of forgiveness through Christ. And whether they be in your school, workplace, your neighborhood, your family, Jesus said to ‘Go and make disciples…teaching them everything that I have commanded you.’ (Matt.28:19-20) To do this effectively, you are going to have to be clear about what you believe and some of the reasons why you can be confident it is true. Put another way, you need to be ready to make your own case for Christ.” (pg.12)
Here is a true confession from your pastor. I am feeling overwhelmed. I am sure you know the feeling. Life seems to have me by the tail and whirling me around. What must I do to stop my heart from palpitating and my mind from racing? My response is to go to God’s Word. FPC’s daily Bible reading for today (Friday) is 1 Peter 5. Ah what a nugget of truth that I can cling to these days. Let me share it with you: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” (6-9).
